Militant hide-outs in northwestern Pakistan were attacked by helicopter gunships on Wednesday after a Taliban attack occurred in a paramilitary outpost. The resulting attack left 10 militants dead and several others wounded.
The attack was performed in retaliation to a militant attack on a paramilitary outpost near Mohmand Wednesday morning. A number of militants armed with automatic weapons and rocket launchers attacked the outpost, killing two and injuring three more.
The attack was the latest in a series of Taliban offenses, designed to weaken resolve and public support for the fighting. While Pakistani officials have blamed the recent string of attacks on the Taliban, the group denied involvement in some of the blasts. The resulting declaration has caused people to grow suspicious.
"I think the government itself is making these blasts, or the Taliban," Muzamal Khan told the Associated Press. "But the Taliban is saying we are not involved in these blasts, so it means the government is involved or foreign countries like India or Afghans who live here illegally or American spies."
