Boston Police discovered over 16,000 files of child pornography on a man’s computer late last week, an event that officials say could be one of the biggest child pornography possession and distribution cases in history.
George Shipps, a Boston native and father of five grown children, was arrested Thursday when police found 16,000 video and image files of child pornography on his home computer, one of which was 75 minutes long and showed girls as young as 5 years old involved in sexual acts.
Boston’s assistant Attorney General, Chris Kelly, said that the files made Shipps’s computer system one of the “largest distributing child porn in the world in the last few months,” as the files were downloaded and shared via peer-to-peer networks.
Shipps is currently being held on $100,000 bail and has pleaded not guilty to possession and distribution of child pornography. When he was arrested, Shipps told police that he “had a problem,” according to officials involved with the case.
Shipps’s attorney has stated that the computer system that traced the files to his client’s home PC was mistaken and therefore is inadmissible. His criminal record dates back to 1975, according to official court documents.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for February 26.
I don't know what my deal is, but I can't seem to wrap my mind around this. I just really don't understand why anyone would find a five-year-old sexy. The clear fact that there are networks of men who deeply desire this material just boggles my mind. How do you fix that?
Yeah, I agree with the above comment: how are five-year-olds sexy? I don't get it. And its tough to think of the damage it does to the people involved. But I don't know if there is anything you can do... I mean, sometimes that is the truth. What are you going to do, try to target these people when their young? In the workplace? The only thing you can do is try to catch it and hopefully set an example...
