Israel Seals Off Gaza Once Again: This Time Cutting Off Power

On Tuesday Israel sealed off Gaza for the third time this month, and the only power plant in Gaza was forced to shut off power.
The closure happened after Israel opened Gaza’s borders crossings on Monday to allow humanitarian aid into the territories. Thirty trucks carrying medical supplies, food and other aid items were allowed into Gaza.
Gaza’s only power plant, which, according to AFP supplies about 25 to 30 percent of the territories energy, had shut down on Tuesday due to breakdowns in production units and the inability under the blockade to fix them.
Israeli officials have repeatedly said that they will not reopen the borders unless Gaza militants stop firing rockets into Israel and respect a June 19th cease-fire. During previous blockades Israeli officials have accused Gaza militants of exaggerating the impact of the closures in order to get sympathy from the international community the BBC reported.
The United Nations relief agency in Gaza, however, has warned in the past couple of weeks a worsening humanitarian crisis that will leave people starving unless the borders are kept open.
