The U.S. Senate will vote on Hillary Clinton's confirmation for secretary of state on Wednesday, according to CNN.
Sen. John Cornyn of Texas prevented the Senate from voting in favor of Clinton on Tuesday. His objection caused the Senate to a hold a roll call vote on Clinton's nomination, Wednesday.
Cornyn said he knows Sen. Clinton will be confirmed but wants to spend more time talking about the foundation Bill Clinton runs.
"I remain deeply troubled that America's foreign policy and your diplomatic mission will be encumbered by the sweeping global activities of the Clinton Foundation," Cornyn wrote in a press release, according to CNN.
However, Bill Clinton signed an agreement with the Obama team, promising to limit foreign donations. He also pledged to release annual disclosures of new donations.
I understand Sen. Cornyn's ethical concerns, but I doubt Bill or Melinda Gates would be getting the Nth degree if either of them had hypothetically been nominated for their charity work in sub-Saharan Africa to treat curable diseases.
I cannot wait for our brand-new Madame Secretary to help make women's rights a real diplomatic priority, as opposed to Laura Bush's effete approach.
