North Korea Declares its Developed More Plutonium for Bomb

World News Share
North Korea declared Tuesday that it had completed reprocessing its spent nuclear fuel for use in a bomb, pressuring the United States to start bilateral talks, the NY Times reported.

In early September, North Korea had told the United Nations Security Council that it was in the “final phase” of reprocessing 8,000 spent fuel rods unloaded from its nuclear reactor in Yongbyon, north of Pyongyang, and was “weaponizing” plutonium extracted from the rods, the Times said.

The country has completed reprocessing 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods, and has made substantial progress in turning plutonium into fuel for nuclear bombs, Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency announced Tuesday, Voice of America said.

“We have no option but to strengthen our self-defense nuclear deterrent in the face of increasing nuclear threats and military provocations from hostile forces,” the news agency said.

On Monday, North Korea pressed the United States for a decision about starting bilateral talks, warning that it was ready to proceed with its nuclear weapons program, the Times said. North Korea has also said it was also enriching uranium. Highly-enriched uranium would give it another route to build nuclear bombs.

Eh, I'd worry more about Pakistan.

North Korea is just concerned with regime survival, and that will ultimately fail if it ever launches a nuclear weapon because of the retaliation. You don't have to worry about North Korea as an offensive threat unless a time comes when the regime really has nothing to lose.

Tell my brother in law who spent several years in Korea and "earned" two purple hearts to no worry about North Korea. This is a dangerous country with dangerous objectives and, now with dangerous weaponry plus evolving delivery mechanisms.
