Apple Hybrid iPhone Would be Compatible with Verizon Wireless

While some technology experts were under the impression that Verizon’s recently introduced Droid phones would jeopardize and rival the long-term prosperity of Apple iPhone’s, CNet.com is reporting that early Droid sales show that it is cutting primarily into the popularity of Blackberry phones as opposed to Apple iPhones. There are rumors circulating that indicate the potential creation of a Verizon-compatible iPhone that would be introduced to the market in the third quarter of 2010, according to CNet.com.
The Apple Insider Blog has shed some light on this rumored phone that is sure to generate a tremendous amount of attention amongst Verizon customers. Apple reportedly plans on developing a hybrid, world-mode iPhone that could be distributed as a single global handset to every carrier within the United States, including Verizon. The hybrid iPhone would be compatible with both the CDMA and GSM/UMTS systems as opposed to only the GSM/UMTS systems, which is the current predicament that Apple finds itself in with its current iPhone models.
Although no official comment has been given as of yet by Apple or Verizon in response to the rumors over the creation of a hybrid, world-mode iPhone, experts are speculating that it would become the most anticipated smartphone to hit the market in history.
It is doubtful that Verizon would allow the changes to their operations that Apple would want in order to sell their phone through Verizon. Verizon always cripples phone functions they don't like, and wants to limit phones on their network to using their own crippled app store, and allow only ringtones sold through their store to be on phones on their network.
They also charge for the new Apple style visual voice mail used on the newest phones they sell, plus limit data downloads.
Verizon would have to make MAJOR changes in policy to get the iPhone, and I've got doubts as to whether they would be wiling to do this.
