President, First Lady to Attend Tuesday’s Fort Hood Memorial

The White House announced earlier today that President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will be attending Tuesday’s Fort Hood Memorial, which is being held in tribute to the 13 people who were tragically killed during Tuesday’s shooting. The memorial will be held exactly one week after the Fort Hood killings took place.
Former Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan was the Fort Hood gunman who shot and killed 13 members of the military last Tuesday. He was effectively subdued by police after being shot four times in a confrontation and he is currently listed in stable condition.
The Washington Post is reporting that President Obama is slated to begin his tour of Asia on Wednesday, just one day after the Fort Hood Memorial is scheduled to occur. Earlier this week during a radio address, President Obama described his take on the Fort Hood shootings, labeling them as a crime against our nation, according to Reuters.
He elaborated on his opinion by saying, "It is an act of violence that would have been heartbreaking had it occurred anyplace in America. It is a crime that would have horrified us had its victims been Americans of any background. But it's all the more heartbreaking and all the more despicable because of the place where it occurred and the patriots who were its victims.”
