House Reps Pass Health Care Reform Bill by Vote of 220 to 215

The revisions that House Democrats made to their health care reform proposal late into Friday night appear to have paid off. The New York Daily News is reporting that the House of Representatives passed the health care reform bill by the narrowest of margins earlier this evening. The proposal passed by a vote of 220 to 215 largely due to President Barack Obama’s speech to persuade undecided House Democrats as well as the revisions that were made.
Fox News reported earlier in the week that House Republicans had reached a consensus viewpoint over the bill and that they would unanimously vote against it. However, Republican House representative Joseph Cao from Louisiana shockingly decided to go against his party’s wishes by voting in favor of the bill.
The most debated topic within the bill that required House Democrats to make certain revisions in order to appeal to voters who had been previously undecided was federal funding for abortion. Before the House Democrats edited their health care reform bill, conservative representatives within the party threatened to vote against it.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who showed confidence that he bill would be passed on Friday evening when she guaranteed it, provided a statement in response to tonight’s successful vote, saying, “President Obama’s leadership gives our nation hope. Today, with this legislation, we will give them health.”
That's a great Pelosi quote. I hadn't heard it before. I'm unhappy about the anti-abortion crap amendment, but at least it still has a public option. Better than the status quo, so I hope the Senate can get this through. I am so tired of the slick tv ads against it.
