A California man upset over the Proposition 8 banning gay marriage in California is leading a counter movement calling for a ban on divorce. And he's using social network giant Facebook as his soapbox.
“Since California has decided to protect traditional marriage, I think it would be hypocritical of us not to sacrifice some of our own rights to protect traditional marriage even more.” The rationale is that if you are going to stick with the 'sanctity of marriage,' you should stick with the vow 'Til death do us part.'"
Is he serious? Marcotte's brief bio reads:
John Marcotte is a firm believer in traditional family values. He currently opposes government-funded death panels, Obama talking to children and MSNBC's entire prime-time line-up.
What is serious is the movement is gaining more momentum and coverage, including an interview on MSNBC on Tuesday. Marcotte held a march against divorce last month and is raising funds to support the movement. You can buy a T-shirt from his website that reads: "You said 'Til death do us part.' You're not dead yet."
Marcotte needs to collect more than 694,000 signatures to put the ban on the November ballot.
