Obama Establishes Task Force On Child Obesity

Advert
US News Share
President Obama has apparently decided to join the fight against childhood obesity, an effort that the First Lady, Michelle Obama, recently decided to focus on.

President Obama signed a memorandum Tuesday establishing a task force to address the problem of obesity in children.

The task force will encourage coordination between government, private and non-profit sectors. The group will be given 90 days to design a plan to address the growing obesity problem.

According to the memo, the Obama administration is "committed to redoubling our efforts to solve the problem of childhood obesity within a generation through a comprehensive approach that builds on effective strategies, engages families and communities, and mobilizes both public and private sector resources."

As part of the health campaign, Mrs. Obama is encouraging families to drink more water, eat smaller portions and watch less television.

The memo went on to state that about one-third of American children are either overweight or obese, and one-third of children born after the year 2000 will suffer from diabetes in their lifetime.

It's a good idea to stop the obesity problem now before children get older and are more set in their bad eating habits.

I do feel bad for Obama because I think he really is trying to live up to Americans’ expectations. I'm guessing people expected him to come in and drastically change everything. The thing that people didn't realize was that the economy was left in shambles and kept getting worse. It's like Obama was left to pick up the pieces. It is going to take time for things to get better, but people's patience is starting to get thin, thanks to the improvement in technology people want results now and don't want to wait for change.

Now on the health topic, I think all Americans should have health coverage. But my concern is what about people that are not working? Cobra insurance does help for the unemployed but it's a temporary fix. Seeing this subject from the perspective of working-class Americans it is unfair for companies to cancel health care insurance for employees that have been working for a company for a long time.
