Iran Speaks of a Countdown for Israel's Doom

Advert
Middle East Share
According to a new report by Reuters and the New York Post, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stated yesterday that Lebanon and Palestine had pressed a "countdown button" to bring about the demise of Israel.

"With God's help, the countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed by the hands of the children of Lebanon and Palestine," Ahmadinejad said in a speech.

"By God's will, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future." No further elaborations were offered by the President.

These remarks reiterate past statements made by the Iranian head of state who two years ago triggered outrage in the West by declaring Israel should be "wiped off the map." While Ahmadinejad has often referred to the destruction of the Jewish state, he continues to claim Iran does not pose a threat to the nation.

This story is frightening and I have to question the motives of the President of Iran in making such inflammatory comments.

Sadly, I don't think there is much of a question here. We've got some devout types dreaming of forming the world of Allah where infindels are crushed and they get to wear the boot. Shades of the mighty Turkish empire flaming forth across the seas. The president of Iran is much younger than most of those types, but fortunately he doesn't seem to be bringing the youth with him to his old-style views.

No he is not bringing the youth with him, the are under his thumb. It's the extremists he has in his pocket. These are the one's who will do his bidding.

The youth may be under his thumb now, but how long he can keep it that way is a big question. Youth really hates repression and are tempermentally suited to blazing out against it. These things take time to build, but the process is underway in Iran. As usual, children are our hope for the future.

As long as the youth in China were able to hold out. You do remember Tieneman Square.
#6 | MplsVala on June 05 2007 14:59:30
Are you suggesting that Tieneman Square had no effect on things in China? That story isn't over yet either.

I was in China last year and I can say things have improved. The people have more money now and consumers are the true rulers of society. The more money they have the more freedom they want.

Thank you davien for sharing your views on this story. It is nice to know that China is changing.Grin
