Scientists Discover Most Primitive 4-Legged Creature Ever
Advert
Scientists have unearthed a fossil of a primitive creature that lived 100 million years before the first dinosaur. The 365 million-year-old fossil of the water-dwelling animal dubbed Ventastega curonica was discovered in Latvia.
Despite the lack of its legs or toes, scientists were able to deduce it was 4-legged because of the shape of key parts of its pelvis and shoulders.
Ventastega was likely three or four feet long, and swam in shallow waters eating other fish. The creature is believed to have stubby limbs, and a fin on its back.
Scientists are hopeful that the discovery will shed light on the evolution of fish to more advanced 2-legged creatures who walked on land.
