McCain Campaign Attacks Obama on Canceling Troop Visit, Again

The McCain campaign revealed some bitterness towards presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama for canceling a trip to an Army Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. The McCain campaign has argued that Obama has chosen to mingle with foreign leaders and cheering Europeans over “injured American heroes.”
The Obama campaign refuted by calling the accusation “wildly inappropriate.” The Obama campaign says it canceled the visit to the military hospital in Germany due to concerns about political activity on a military base raised by the Pentagon.
Obama himself decided the visit would appear as inappropriate politicking, yet the Pentagon claims the Senator was never told not to visit.
“If I had been told by the Pentagon that I couldn’t visit those troops, and I was there and wanted to be there, I guarantee you, there would have been a seismic event,” said the Republican presidential nominee on ABC’s This Week.
The McCain campaign has attacked Obama with intensive criticism during his Middle East and European tour that has drawn a number of headlines and broadcasts.
The McCain campaign also issued a statement by retired Army Colonel Joe Repya, who said Obama had broken a commitment to U.S. soldiers and chose to fly from one European capital to the next. "For a young man so apt at playing president, Barack Obama badly misjudged the important demands of the office he seeks. Visits with world leaders and speeches to cheering Europeans shouldn't be a substitute for comforting injured American heroes,” said Repya.
Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs made note that Obama was to leave a majority of staff and reporters at the airport before visiting the Army medical center to avoid any appearance of a campaign event. However, when the Pentagon raised concerns, the plan was nixed.
