After a blackout in Hawaii's Oahu, power was finally brought back. Workers were attempting to get the power up and running on Saturday, and many tourists were relaxing. In addition, even the current President-Elect Barack Obama and his family were in Hawaii for a vacation. People were told to stay indoors and save water. Jan Loose, a Hawaiian Electric Co. spokeswoman, explained that the power was given back to the western portion of the Oahu Island. The eastern part of Oahu Island is expected to be restored power later in the day on Saturday.
A worker was scheduled to take a generator to President-Elect Obama’s rented house, but President-Elect Obama did not need a generator. According to the Associated Press, Associated Press Writer David Briscoe reports, “But Bill Brennan, a spokesman for Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann, said in an e-mail to the Associated Press early Saturday that there were already three generators at Obama's house and that the one sent by the Republican Governor, Linda Lingle, was turned away when power company employees tried to deliver it.”
