Along with the massive amounts of drugs spilling over the Mexican-American border, recent reports show that drug cartel operations on the U.S. side of the border are rising.
In a joint-national raid Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, United States agents arrested more than 50 suspects at different ends of the United States in connection with the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel, reported the Austin News.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and state and local police rounded up suspects in California, Minnesota and the Maryland suburbs of Washington. Almost 800 suspects along with more than $59 million in criminal proceeds were collected in the 21-month DEA operation.
The increased threat of violence and kidnapping, especially along the border, has prompted the state department to issue advisory warnings to those traveling through Mexico. The warnings targeted Spring Break tourists, where more than 100,000 U.S. citizens cross the border into Mexico each year.
Along with other precautions, advisers warned tourists to “exercise common-sense precautions such as visiting only the well-traveled business and tourism areas of border towns during daylight and early evening hours.”
Springbreakers are DEFINITELY a target especially b/c there are so many younger people there and very easily influenced since its legal to drink in Mexico at a young age. Anyone who does decide to go over to mexico should always be with someone and nevery be by themselves
